Properly constructed and maintained, roads can last for decades. High quality roads allow motorists and pedestrians to reach their destinations without any incident. To ensure the quality of a road, certain steps need to be followed carefully to properly construct the road. These steps are Phase 1 – Planning, Phase 2 – Setting Out, Phase 3 – Earthwork, Phase 4 – Subbase and Base Course, Phase 5 – Surface Course, and Phase 6 – Road Marking. Phase 4 – Subbase and Base Course is the most important step in road construction. This layer serves as the foundation for the road and is often the primary load-bearing section/layer. So, it is essential that the material used for this layer is of high quality. The Surface Course or paving is done once the Subbase and Base Course have been graded and drainage systems have been put in place. It can either be rigid or flexible depending on the specifications of the road project.
